What Are YOU HIDING Behind?

The other day I was talking with a great friend about the things we HIDE behind.  These are the things we use as SECURITY BLANKETS so we don’t have to deal with our reality.  However these same things slow us down and PREVENT us from being our BESTEST self. We both admitted to using PROCRASTINATION as a shield.  We are SO afraid of change and the chance to have an OUTSTANDING life, we resort to this DEFECTIVE mechanism.
Other things we may hide behind, but aren’t aware of are:
-School/Work
-Familial Relationships
-Children
-Exercise
-Food
-Unhealthy Habits/Relationships
-Drinking
-Too MANY Obligations
What things are you HIDING behind?  Before you can be YOUR FIERCEST self, you have to look at the CRUTCHES and SHIELDS holding you BACK and MOVE them the ‘HECK’ out of YOUR WAY.  Once those things are gone, YOU can be your FIERCEST and KEEP IT MOVING towards living a GREAT LIFE.

Fave Steve Jobs Quote

Your time is limited, so don't waste it living someone else's life. Don't be trapped by dogma — which is living with the results of other people's thinking. Don't let the noise of others' opinions drown out your own inner voice. And most important, have the courage to follow your heart and intuition. They somehow already know what you truly want to become. Everything else is secondary.

Do YOU know YOUR VALUE?

UNSTOPPABLE...

The Most Amazing Race - Downtown Raleigh, NC

I have been so busy lately I COMPLETELY forgot to post on this event.  The MOST AMAZING RACE of Downtown Raleigh took place on August 24th, 2013 and was hosted by the Salvation Army of Wake County.  This was a GREAT, action-packed event with lots of COOL and INTERESTING challenges.  Proceeds from the event benefitted the Salvation Army of Wake County which provides after-school care, athletic programs, and summer camps for at-risk children.

The race is modeled after the TV show "The Most Amazing Race."  There were scavenger like hunts that consisted of 21 teams of "two.” Each team had to raise $250 EACH. Challengers were "subjected" to 12 pretty FIERCE challenges and included participants choosing "unspeakable" TOPPINGS at Mellow Mushroom and a super FIERCE challenge at Triangle Cross Fit of Downtown Raleigh. I had the privilege of working the Cross FIT station Challenge, which came directly after the challengers Mellow Mushroom, stomach-churning event.

 The Cross Fit Challenge involved:

- 5 Burpees - 2x's

-5 Wall Ball's - 2x's

-5 Monster tire jump/turnovers - 2x’s

SERIOUSLY, there were some pretty FIERCE people out there – not sure how they did it! As an avid runner, I still can't get my head around the Cross Fit Challenge or any of the other events! That's me in the jeans and hat by the way.  Not exactly prepared for a Saturday am photo op!

I hope to get a team of ladies out there in 2014 to support this fantastic cause!

Need…to slow down…SERIOUSLY!

Us diva’s with a FIERCE mindset SERIOUSLY think we are INVINCIBLE.  I often visualize myself as SUPERWOMAN – tough, toned, and FIERCE.  If you were to see me out on any given day, I would probably be flying about in my FIERCE car and invisible cape and shield.

It’s ridiculous how much “STUFF” we put on our “plates.” Let’s see…12 mile run, weight-lifting, work on new project, market new idea that popped into my head at 3 am, girls to the park, get cupcakes, trip to the mall, make the house perfect, move to Alaska.  Oops, did I forget eating? Oh yeah, and that online class I was supposed to sign-up for to improve my career.  SERIOUSLY ?? When do you sit down and smell the roses?  Or whatever it is you want to smell. No wonder we have issues falling asleep at night.

Sometimes we have to remind ourselves we are HUMAN and need time to slow down and just be ourselves.  Just because you have a DIVA mindset that you can do anything, does NOT mean you CAN actually DO IT.  And that’s okay. Even Sarah Jessica Parker in “I Don’t Know How She Does It” had enough sense to realize that at some point, “Something’s Gotta Give  (Jack Nicholson).“
We should all take a note from SJP and pledge to take a moment each day to slow down and just be ourselves.  Because SERIOUSLY, you can’t be your FIERCEST if you’re raggedy and worn all the time. Because our “STUFF” ain’t going nowhere.  It will be there tomorrow…or the next day…or the next day.

SERIOUSLY…Take a moment to SLOW DOWN and just be YOU.

Miss America 2014 – The Media Should Get a LIFE

I swear - the media seriously needs to get a LIFE.  Last night, Nina Davuluri, a beautiful, talented, aspiring doctor who has been vocal about her struggle with bulimia, was crowned Miss America -  2014.  The minute she was crowned, idiots all over the country started spewing all “kinds” of ridiculousness that I refuse to repeat.  So what, she is of Indian Heritage.  Aren’t we all mixed up? Who cares.  People should have other things to talk about anyway.
The fact that her race is such a hot topic says something about people’s lives in our society.  I can honestly think about a million more fiery issues to talk about than how “tan or non-tan” someone is.  SERIOUSLY.  According to Al Roker of the Today Show, Vanessa Williams created this same controversy in 1983 when she was crowned Miss America.  Why?  Because people were so disturbed by her “African Americanness.”  This was well before our technology movement, so instead of receiving unintelligible remarks on Twitter, she received tons of hate in the mail.

In 2013, with all of the advancements and opportunities in our country, one would seriously think American society would be so much more “grown-up” than it is.   I love that our first amendment gives us the right to speak freely, but seriously, people should have more going on in their lives and less time to spew ridiculousness on social media.  People, PLEASE get a life and stop hating on Nina Davuluri.

Get Heeled 5K - Chapel Hill, NC

Yesterday, I had the privilege of running the Get Heeled 5K in Chapel Hill, NC. The Get Heeled 5k is a fun-filled, charitable event that raises funding and awareness for families struggling with cancer. There were some great teams and sponsors including Ashley's Angel - a team of runner's that runs to support Ashley Burnett. Ashley is a young lady, who was diagnosed with cancer at the age of 7. This year she was able to run the event cancer free!

Other sponsors included Girl's on the Run, Fleet Feet Sports of Carrboro, Mom in Chapel Hill, and the Marie Claire Satterly Foundation. All proceeds from the event went to the UNC Lineberger Pediatric Oncology and Hematology Clinic.

We started off by warming up and dancing with some of the ladies from the Dance Theatre South.   The race started promptly at 9 am with the Black Eyed Peas "Let's Get It Started!" The course began at the UNC Friday Center and ran through the beautiful Meadowmont neighborhood. There were plenty of cheerleaders and motivational signs along the way.  One message that really stuck with me was one by Kay Yow - When life kicks you, let it kick you forward.

The Get Heeled 5K motto is "Walk it. Love it. Run it." and I plan to be there again in 2014 to support a great cause and do what I love the most !
